Busting Diabetes Starts Here
![]() It's a fact: You can't control diabetes if you don't know you have it. Thankfully, it's easy to get tested with help from the Christian Hospital Diabetes Institute and their bright blue mobile unit. "The mobile unit — which is out in the community at least four days a week — is highly recognizable," said Bret Berigan, Christian Hospital's public relations and internal communications manager. It might also be less frightening. People who haven't been to their physician for a while, or who may not have a physician can still climb aboard the mobile unit and receive a free check of three key health indicators: blood sugar levels, blood pressure and body mass index. The results of the screening are given to the individual to share with his or her physician. If the person doesn't currently have a physician, Christian Hospital can help with that, too. A physician referral is required to access the services of the Christian Hospital Diabetes Institute, but once enrolled, patients benefit from the expertise of diabetes educators and registered dietitians. Additional services include: exercise and meal planning, individual consultations, a personalized education plan, small group sessions and support groups. Diabetes and its complications should not be taken lightly. Call 314-747-WELL (314-747-9355) to register for a free diabetes screening or visit diabetesbusters.com to view a schedule of upcoming mobile unit stops.
