Fall nail color trends include bold shades, a matte finish
MCCLATCHY-TRIBUNE
Pack up the pastels. Put away the blood red polish. Classic polish colors are taking a break for fall 2009 while some fresh and fun ideas gain attention. Creamy whites, for example, were popular during fashion week. Need more color? Bright, bold polishes are also in this season. Here's what is popular now in nail color: SUPER DARK SHADES Deep, almost black colors are popular with clothes and shoes this autumn. Dark violet, midnight blue and deep brown colors are also popular with polish. Girl Talk by Nicole by OPI is a luscious dark brown with warm undertones. $7.99 at Target or Wal-Mart stores. MATTE COLORS Deep, powerful colors minus the shine are also big for fall. (Matte colors do not wear as long as regular polishes and usually should not be worn with a base or top coat.) Zoya has three matte colors inspired by shades of velvet. Posh is a deep burgundy minus shine. $6 at ArtofBeauty.com. NEON Bright, eighties inspired colors will be popular this year in both beauty and fashion. The Neon collection from Essie is a subtle way to enjoy the trend. The collection includes a bright yellow, glowing purple and two perky pinks. Recommended for use with base and top coat. Does not contain DPB, formaldehyde or toluene. $8 each at EssieShop.com. GROWN-UP GLITTER Glamorous glitter is still popular, but the trend is maturing. Skip sparkles mixed with hot pink or bright blue colors and opt for glittery metallic. Locavore is one of three sparkly colors from Rescue Beauty Lounge. This polish includes glittery shades of gold, silver, green and blue for a chic result. Does not contain DPB, formaldehyde or toluene. $18 at RescueBeauty.com. WHITE Celebrities such as Gwen Stefani sparked the white trend in late summer. Bright, thick whites are expected to be trendy through autumn. The Bisou de Lulu from Creative Nail Designs is a creme polish from the neutral line and has a soft appearance. $6, store or salon locator available at CND.com.
