Structure for Leadership... Leadership for Life!
Why choose one school over another? What do both parents look for and students need in a school? What is particularly important to help students succeed, especially in this tight economy and increased competition in the world job market? The Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Mo., may well be your answer. With 120 years of tradition helping to educate young men, the Academy combines both proven and successful curriculum by teaching self-discipline, confidence, leadership, organizational skills and good citizenship. “Our education is invaluable for preparing students to be successful, especially in these difficult times,” said Capt. Andy Craig, director of marketing. MMA’s focus is on providing its male students, grades six through 12, with a college preparatory degree in a structured learning environment. “MMA is a high-level academic institution that adds additional structure to the student’s lives,” Capt. Craig said. But, MMA also teaches leadership and character development, in addition to the vigorous academic foundation, not just in school, but for life. Several factors go into its substantial success. Class sizes are small. Daily study halls are mandatory. More than 75 percent of the faculty hold master’s and doctorates in their fields. Advisory programs are available in all areas. A private pilots program also is available, as are private music lessons, an award-winning band, and tutoring programs, etc. The Academy has a complete athletic program with 11 varsity sports, as well as its own stable of horses for their equestrian program, a rifle team, a rappelling tower, and a lake nestled on its 288-acre wooded campus. Although the school is non-denominational, time is set aside on a regular basis to attend religious services or for reflection. The school’s reputation is both national and international. Students from 30 different states and 18 foreign countries are currently enrolled at MMA, creating an atmosphere of diversity on campus. In addition, 100 percent of its graduates have been accepted into top-ranked colleges, including such top-ranked schools as Boston College, Mizzou, Purdue, Georgia Tech and others. In fact, MMA has a great reputation with all of the top-tier schools across this nation. “An application from a MMA cadet impresses the college acceptance boards,” Capt. Craig said. Not only are they impressed with its academic reputation, but also with the leadership qualities its students bring with them to their schools. MMA graduates go into a variety of fields, including medicine, law, engineering, business, and the arts. Two are even heading to culinary school. And, how many schools have summer camp programs that not only are fun and exciting, but allow prospective students, as well as their parents, to get a glimpse into what the school has to offer? Check out the current summer schedule at www.mma-cadet.org. Opening this August is a new, cutting-edge, 8.9-million-dollar academic building, Capt. Craig said. This building is the first LEED-designed and -certified building in the state. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a method approved by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is made with refurbished materials, more natural lighting than fluorescent lighting, and ecologically friendly paint and building materials. In addition to providing an even better and healthier learning environment for its students, this building also reflects the values of responsibility and social conscience that MMA tries to instill in its students. “It will be a positive learning environment, as well as teach the students to be socially responsible for the stewardship of their community and the world at large,” Capt. Craig said. The motto of the school sums it all up: Structure for Learning, Leadership for Life. 204 N. Grand Street, Mexico, MO 65265 USA http://www.mma-cadet.org/
