ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Vacations may have been shorter and closer to home this year, but the slumbering economy didn't stop people from traveling.

We know you took your cameras.

The Post-Dispatch Travel Photo Contest will be accepting entries through Nov. 27.

A panel of Post-Dispatch journalists will chose first-, second- and third-place winners, plus a number of honorable mentions. All will be published in the newspaper in December.

Great travel photos are well composed and have proper lighting and focus. They should capture a special moment during a vacation and show a viewer what it feels like to be there. Scenics can be good, but they often need a specific subject to add scale. Photos that include local people doing something have an interesting human dimension.

Each of the top three winners will win five books they get to pick from a list of select travel books, including Fodor's and Zagat guides. The books should help them get a jump on next year's travel destinations.
