Along for the Ride: Chat with the experts
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Join Linda Wilson of MoDOT and Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors each Wednesday at 2 p.m. for I-64 Live, an online chat about Highway 40 (Interstate 64) construction and other highway issues. Submit questions at STLtoday.com/discussions. Here is an excerpt from last week.

Dog: When the remaining portion of highway is opened, will it have the temporary striping, and, if so, will the permanent striping/demarcation lines have to wait until next spring?

Dan Galvin: We're in the process of doing much of the permanent striping right now. There may still be a few areas that need to be striped next year but most of it should be done by the time we open.

Nick: Is there any chance that the portion of Hwy. 40/64 between Kingshighway and Skinker will open before the remainder. It looks like it's almost complete now.

Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: No, we'll open the entire thing at once. We still have some barrier and landscaping to complete on that section so it's not as finished as you might think.

chris: Will the exit ramp from southbound 170 to Forest Park Pkwy. revert back to its original configuration after the project is complete or will it remain a continuous lane between the Ladue entrance ramp to the exit?

Linda Wilson: Yes. It will remain as a continuous entrance ramp from Ladue connected to the exit ramp to the Parkway.

riz: Why is there a stop sign on Meridian by the parking garages?! The line of cars in each direction (especially those from Eager continuing to Hanley) is ridiculous. When will this "jug handle" be completed?

Dan Galvin: That stop sign is to allow people to cross the street to get to and from the garage and to allow cars a chance to get into and out. Before the stop sign was installed, there were seldom enough breaks in traffic to let that happen. The Eager/Hanley reconnection is scheduled for the end of October, but there are too many utility issues that still have to be resolved to make a prediction about it being any sooner than that.

Max: I have noticed a barrier on eastbound 40 that looks like it prevents you from getting off at Bellevue. Will you be able to get off 40 at Bellevue still?

Linda Wilson: Yes. There will be an exit from eastbound 64 to Bellevue but the exit ramp will be located closer to Big Bend. So right after you cross under Big Bend is where the new Bellevue exit will be.
