ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

UPDATED: 3:31 p.m.

COLUMBIA, Ill. --  Christopher Coleman, whose family was slain in Columbia, Ill., last week, briefly returned to the police station this afternoon to provide fingerprints under court order, Major Case Squad spokesman Jeff Connor said.

Coleman did not take questions as he left with his lawyer, William Margulis.  Connor said police are not calling Coleman a suspect.

"He just came to give us some fingerprints," Connor said. "We are not prepared to say anybody is a suspect. We're still working on it. We feel confident we are going to solve this crime. We don't want to rush it."

Meanwhile, Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said officials have finished the crime scene investigation at the house on 2854 Robert Drive  where Coleman lives and where his wife and two sons were found murdered May 5.

Coleman briefly visited the house and then left with his father.

Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said that Christopher Coleman returned to the police station this afternoon but would not say why. The Major Case Squad has scheduled a press briefing for 4:15 p.m.

A funeral took place on Saturday in Chester, but a court order filed against Christopher Coleman required that the bodies be taken to the Chicago area for a memorial service for Sheri Coleman's family later today.

Sheri Coleman's mother and brother live in the Chicago area, and they said not all their friends and family were able to travel to the southern Illinois town of Chester. Christopher Coleman grew up in Chester.

His father, Ronald Coleman, is pastor at Grace Church where Saturday's funeral for the mother and sons took place.

Christopher Coleman told police that he had left the family home in the Columbia Lakes subdivision near Interstate 255 at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and went to work out at a South St. Louis County gym. He called police around 7 a.m. saying he was worried because he could not reach his family. Police found the bodies of his wife and sons inside the home.

Christopher Coleman is a security officer for Joyce Meyer Ministries -- a worldwide evangelical organization based in Jefferson County.
