Timeline in Coleman family murders

May 5, 5:45 a.m.: Chris Coleman leaves home in Columbia, Ill., at 5:45 a.m. to work out at gym in St. Louis County.

May 5, shortly before 7 a.m.: Coleman calls police, saying he could not reach family by phone. Police find Sheri, 31 and sons Garett, 11 and Gavin, strangled in their bedrooms. Reportedly spray-painted on walls inside home were words similar to: "I told you this would happen." Neighbors said Coleman had complained of threatening letters in recent weeks. St. Louis Major Case Squad called into assist with investigation.

May 6: Police seen searching stretches along Interstate 255 near Jefferson Barracks Bridge — the route Coleman took to the gym

May 8: Major Case Squad extends investigation. Visitation for victims held in Chester, Ill.


May 9: Coleman's family holds funeral service for victims in Chester. Sheri Coleman's family obtains court order preventing burial for several days so they can have funeral in Chicago area.

May 11: Coleman, under court order, is fingerprinted by police. House no longer is secured as a crime scene. Sheri Coleman's family holds funeral visitation in Chicago suburb.

May 12: Source tells Post-Dispatch that police interviewed woman in Florida believed to be Coleman's girlfriend

.May 13: Major Case Squad says they know who killed woman and her two sons, but release no name. Case handed over to prosecutor. The same day, Coleman resigns from his security job at Joyce Meyer Ministries after "violation of moral conduct."

May 15: Major Case Squad disbands.

May 18: Source tells Post-Dispatch that glove with apparent red spray-paint stains was discovered along Interstate 255. Glove to be tested for DNA, fingerprints and to see if paint matches that used in message painted in victims' home.

May 19: Coleman is arrested and charged with murdering his wife and two sons.
