COLLEGE CONNECTION MAGAZINE

Founded in 1873, Drury University was patterned after the liberal arts colleges of the North, such as Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth and Oberlin. The university’s core curriculum, degree programs and opportunities for involvement are designed to prepare ethical, innovative leaders for service in the global community. Drury is home to more than 5,000 students: 1,600 at the undergraduate level, representing more than 34 states and 43 foreign countries.

Drury’s global-focused general education curriculum, known as Global Perspectives for the 21st Century or GP21, serves as the foundation for all undergraduates. Students develop competency in a second language along with problem-solving and communication skills. Drury’s honors program offers options for motivated students. Small class sizes, interdisciplinary coursework and foreign study characterize the program.

Combining commitment to education with service is at the heart of the Drury Volunteer Corps. Those who wish can apply for residency in Drury’s Summit Park Leadership Community, and can also participate in service-learning trips in this country and abroad.

The university offers 63 academic majors and 32 minors. The most popular majors include architecture, business, psychology, biology and accounting.

Within a year of graduation, 99 percent of Drury graduates are working or continuing their education, with almost 40 percent attending graduate school. There are more than 90 clubs and organizations on campus. Drury is home to four sororities and four fraternities, all recognized for high GPAs and exemplary community service.

Drury is a member of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference. In 2007, Drury athletes won national titles in swimming and NCAA appearances in men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and tennis, and women’s golf.

Drury is situated in historic Midtown in Springfield, Mo. For nine years, Drury has been recognized as one of the best master’s-level universities by U.S. News & World Report. The university was also named a Best Midwestern College by The Princeton Review. Call 800-922-2274. -- Drury University
