Shooting in East St. Louis takes woman's life
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

EAST ST. LOUIS — One woman was killed Saturday night in a shooting outside the Crown Food Mart at Martin Luther King Drive and Collinsville Avenue. Relatives of two other women said they had died, but police did not confirm that.

The three were in a Dodge Caliber near a gasoline pump when the shooting took place. An 8-year old boy and a 1-year old child, also in the vehicle, were uninjured. At least five shots were fired.

The shooting was reported about 9 p.m. The women, all Illinois residents, and the children were taken to Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital.

East St. Louis Detective Kenneth Berry said investigators had one person in custody but did not believe that person was the shooter.

The Illinois State Police have joined the investigation of the shooting.

"We are still sorting through everything," Berry said.
