Florissant homeowners without trash service face summons

FLORISSANT — Florissant will begin sending summon notices within the next week to those who do not have trash service.

An estimated 200 properties in Florissant are without trash pickup, but some properties may be vacant or foreclosed, officials said.

The city and St. Louis County have ordinances mandating trash pickup. The legal action comes after sending several notices to the identified properties.

"We view it like any other utility," said Florissant Public Works Director Lou Jearls. "You must have gas, electric and water, and you must have trash pickup."

Residents must use Meridian Waste Management, the city's designated provider. The service costs $13.60 monthly with senior citizens receiving a fifty percent discount.
