I-270 interchange • The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, Fred Weber Inc., will break ground on the construction of a reconfigured interchange at Interstate 270 and Dorsett Road at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The ceremony will take place at the northwest corner of Old Dorsett and Dorsett roads. This project is expected to be completed next year. Dorsett will remain open during construction. A temporary bridge will be built to carry I-270 traffic. The diverging diamond interchange to be used at Dorsett will be the first of its kind in the St. Louis region. The diverging diamond carries heavy traffic volume and allows motorists to make free left turns, meaning vehicles don't cross opposing traffic. It also decreases congestion and is cheaper to construct than other types of interchanges.
MLK Bridge work • The eastbound right lane of the Martin Luther King Bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday so that workers can inspect the bridge. To submit items, e-mail them to headsup@post-dispatch.com or fax them to 314-340-3050. yesterday's most emailed
