The Meramec and Missippippi rivers are cresting several feet above flood stage. The National Weather Service says the Meramec River at Pacific was nearly six feet above flood stage at 6:45 a.m. Monday. The river was 20.98 feet, while flood stage is 15 feet. The Meramec River at Eureka was 28.59 feet at 6:30 a.m. Monday, about 10 feet above flood stage. And the Meramec River's measurement at Valley Park was 26.94 feet, also 10 feet above flood stage. The Army Corps of Engineers has issued advisories for the Mississippi River. At St. Louis, the river was at 32.5 feet at 7 a.m. Monday, about 2 1/2 feet above flood stage of 30 feet. Meanwhile, the President Casino in St. Louis shut down Sunday because of the flooding Mississippi River. The casino at Laclede's Landing was closed at 10 a.m. when the rising river swamped its entrance ramps. A spokeswoman said the casino would remain closed until the ramps are clear of floodwater. Flooding has forced the casino to close three times this year and six times in the last 18 months. The Mississippi is expected to crest at St. Louis at 33.8 feet, almost 4 feet above flood stage. Floodgates have been closed and flood panels installed near the Gateway Arch to help minimize the flooding caused by heavy rainfall during the last week.
