Film screening — The science fiction classic "Alien" will be screened at 7:30 tonight at Moore Auditorium at Webster University. In the movie, the crews of a deep space mining ship Nostromo are awakened from hypersleep to investigate a strange signal from a nearby planet. Dance performance — The Thai Music and Dance Ensemble will present "Thai Classical Music and Dance" at 8 tonight at the Center for International Studies at the University of Missouri at St. Louis in the Social Sciences & Business Building. From classical Thai music to chatri, the prototype for all Thai dance, the performance will take the audience through the history, folklore and geography of the ensemble's homeland. Opera performance — The Community Music School of Webster University, 535 Garden Avenue, will host "Highlights of Classical Chinese Opera" at 7 tonight. The performance troupe is from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, the premier school in China for training professional Beijing opera performers. An expert will be providing explanations of the meanings of the different masks, roles, costumes and movements, as well as the stories of each performance (there are six episodes from six famous traditional Beijing operas). There will also be English subtitles.

Art exhibit — The exhibit "Vestiges: Sculpture & Photography" will be on display from noon to 4 p.m. today at the phd gallery, 2300 Cherokee Street. The exhibit depicts the evidence of time's passage and the beauty that can exist in the legacy left behind. Found wooden sculpture by Susan Nanny and Marsha Sanguinette is juxtaposed with the photography of David R. Hanlon, Jim Sabo and Mark Florida. The exhibit runs through Nov. 14. 314-664-6644.
