Once you set foot in a Hayden-built home, it doesn’t take long to discover why the company is known for building a “thoughtful home.” “I do things a little differently,” said Dennis Hayden, president of Hayden Homes. For example, take the four-bedroom, 4-1/2-bath Pendleton, Hayden’s largest 1-1/2-story with 4,565 square feet, on display at The Summit at BaratHaven in Dardenne Prairie. At the end of a grand foyer is an elegant great room. Instead of using an average design, Hayden decided to raise the ceiling to 11 feet, and create an intimate and formal space by scaling down the size of the room. The home’s main gathering and entertaining space is in the family hearth kitchen, Hayden explained. The approximately 28-foot-by-20-foot room is shown with a center island, cherry finished cabinets, granite-topped countertops, a breakfast nook, butler’s pantry, and cozy living area with fireplace. “I took the desks out of our kitchens 10 years ago and created a communication center,” Hayden said. Located just inside the three-car, front-entry garage, the communication center is a place where “homeowners can come in and put their brief case, purse or laptop down and keep them out of the kitchen,” Hayden said. The laundry room is in an adjacent area. The first-floor master bedroom suite is also presented with a twist. Highlights include a coffee bar with mini refrigerator, fireplace, coffered ceiling, his and her walk-in closets, a luxury bath, and a direct route to the adjoining library. Across the foyer is a large, formal dining room. Details such as a 10-foot tray ceiling and wainscoting add a touch of elegance to the room. “Just as there are nice public spaces on the main floor, the second floor offers the utmost in privacy,” Hayden said. At the top of the steps, a bonus room provides a gathering place for the children of the house. In addition, each of the three bedrooms has a walk-in closet and bathroom. The step-up bedroom in the rear of the home is particularly popular, Hayden said, as it has its own hallway and reading area. “This bedroom makes the Pendleton multi-generational,” said Kristin Hayden Ruebsam, director of marketing. “It’s perfect for an independent parent or older child.” The optional, first-floor guest suite in the Durham ranch serves the same purpose, Hayden said, and is also an ideal home office. “It’s accessible to the garage and has its own side porch so the person isn’t as disruptive to the house,” Hayden said. The laundry room and communication center are also in this family foyer connecting to the kitchen/breakfast room. The kitchen is easily accessible to the formal dining room, and in the display, is open to the great room. The later features an 11-foot lighted tray ceiling and see-through fireplace, which doubles as a fireplace for the covered, outdoor living area. On the opposite side of the house - and separated for privacy - is the master-bedroom suite with study and luxury bath, a powder room, and two additional bedrooms adjoined with a Jack-and-Jill bath. Below, the finished lower level displays even more of Hayden’s well-thought-out ideas. Also in O’Fallon is The Manors at Magnolia, which is convenient to both Highway 40/64 and Interstate 70. The community features homesites that are one-third of an acre or greater, and a recreational facility with a swimming pool, cabana and multi-purpose sport court. Across the street from the rec center, Hayden is selling a 1-1/2-story Saratoga model with four bedrooms, 5-1/2 baths and over 4,400 square feet. The home features a first-floor master suite, a guest suite with its own private entrance and porch, upstairs bonus room, finished lower level, and three-car, side-entry garage. It is priced at $699,858. The same nine models are available at The Summit at BaratHaven and The Manors at Magnolia – at the same prices (starting at $318,500). The previously mentioned Pendleton model starts at $498,500 and the Durham at $391,500. Hayden welcomes customization at both communities. Hayden’s portfolio of floor plans includes numerous luxurious standard features. The 2009 list reflects Hayden’s recent revisions, as he did away with unpopular standard features, reduced overhead and renegotiated vendor contracts in order to “provide people with the opportunity to buy our homes affordably and at great value,” he said. Tour the displays at BaratHaven from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Saratoga at Magnolia is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Homes may also be viewed by appointment.
