You can't get more traditional than Whittaker Homes’ New Town at St. Charles. In fact, there’s a whole series of models there called the Traditional Neighborhood Collection. The 10 two-story plans debuted earlier this year at New Town. Prices start in the $160,000s.

“It’s a new product at a good price,” explained President Greg Whittaker, “and it has gone over very well.” Right off the bat, sales of the nostalgic Traditional Neighborhood Collection hit a steady pace. “The exteriors are very simple, very elegant,” Whittaker said.

Only a limited number of these new models are offered in each phase, he said. The 1,268- to 2,779-square-foot models have from two to four bedrooms, 2-1/2 baths and a one- two-car attached garage.

One is ready for move-in right now. Located at 3429 Mackey Wherry Street in phase three of the community, the Model 1550 has three bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths. “This one is really cute, with a pergola over the front porch,” said Whittaker Sales Consultant Valerie Kaelin. “It’s good for young families just getting started and for single parents, too.” The lower level can be finished for more living space, she added. The uncluttered interior design with 9-foot first-floor ceilings starts with a large living room that flows back to an eat-in galley kitchen with breakfast bar and a full complement of General Electric appliances. Beyond that is the attached oversized one-car garage.

All three bedrooms, including the master suite, are located on the second floor. The master suite has a walk-in closet and private bath with tub and shower. While this home comes with three bedrooms, buyers can opt for a loft instead. Also on the second floor is a convenient laundry room. The Model 1550 inventory home is priced at $218,920.

Other Traditional Neighborhood Series inventory homes are available, Kaelin said.

Need more space? One of Whittaker’s most popular models in this collection is the four-bedroom, 2½-bath Model 1891, with nearly 1,900 square feet and a base price of only $199,500. The federal-style exteriors of these homes can come with or without a front porch or patio, a pergola (an open, slatted covering) or a second-floor balcony. Seven of the models, including the 1550, utilize space over the garage to expand the living area. Many of the models have lofts.

“These homes offer lots of square footage for this price range,” pointed out Kaelin. “They’re an especially good value for the money.”

But what you’re really buying is New Town itself, she noted. There’s Marsala’s Market, the neighborhood grocery store, and Ruskin O’Brien’s, the neighborhood Irish pub, and the popular Domain Street Wine Bar with more than 1,000 bottles and live music on Thursday nights. In fact, Whittaker said, New Town now has dozens of businesses, including a hair salon, a puppy groomer, insurance agencies, three churches, a home decor shop and even a new pinball parlor, PinHeadz Arcade. There is a town hall for meetings and parties, a nondenominational chapel, a beach-volleyball area and an organic farm where residents can buy and raise vegetables. In summer, New Town residents enjoy Shire Lane Pool Club with its 700-foot “lazy river,” Junior Olympic lap pool, leisure pool and children’s area, and the Blue Agave Swim Club.

To visit The New Town at St. Charles, take Highway 370 west from I-270 to north on New Town Boulevard 1.5 miles to the entrance on the right. For information call 636-949-2700.
