Surgery for Oshie
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Blues forward T.J. Oshie will miss approximately seven to 10 days after undergoing an appendectomy Saturday morning. Oshie felt nauseous following Friday's 3-1 win over Minnesota, in which he played 17 minutes, 33 seconds. He was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital, where after a scan, doctors decided on the operation. "I'm just glad he was able to get through the game," Blues President John Davidson said. "It's unfortunate it has to be this time of the year. You always like to see that stuff in the offseason, if you see it. But it's just the way it is." Blues goaltender Chris Mason underwent an emergency appendectomy last October. He was out for about two weeks, missing four games. The Blues don't play again until Wednesday and have five games on the docket over the next two weeks. "It's just got to heal," Davidson said. "You have to make sure the surgery is taken care of and there's no residual effects. If an appendix burst, you have issues. But they got it in time and did a great job." Oshie has played in eight games this season, posting one goal and two assists. With him out of the lineup Saturday against Dallas, the Blues had their seventh set of line combinations in nine games. David Backes, who switched to center last season, was moved to right wing on a line with Andy McDonald at left wing and Keith Tkachuk at center. The Blues didn't make a call-up prior to Saturday's game, and Davidson said that it was too soon to know if the team would do so before Wednesday's game in Carolina. KING KONG D.J. King suffered an injury to his right hand, perhaps his wrist, in a fight with Dallas' Krys Barch Saturday. Four seconds into his shift of his first game since October 2008, King pummeled Barch and then went directly to the locker room. He did not return and later the Blues announced it was an "upper-body" injury. King missed the first eight games of the season after having surgery on a dislocated thumb in training camp. BLUE NOTES Rookie defenseman Alex Pietrangelo played his second game of the season Saturday, replacing defenseman Tyson Strachan.
