Jordan will miss two games for Illini

Illinois will not have Jeff Jordan for the first two games. When Jordan decided to return to the team, it was discovered that he participated in a non-sanctioned three-on-three event during the summer, leading to an NCAA mandated penalty.

"It's something that was just an innocent thing," Illini coach Bruce Weber said. "I feel bad for Jeff."

Trouble for former MU player — Seton Hall suspended Keon Lawrence, a former Missouri player, indefinitely from the team after police charged he was under the influence when he drove the wrong way on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey and collided with another car.

Lawrence was treated for severe facial cuts, while the driver of the other car suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash early Monday, police said.

Coach Bobby Gonzalez announced Lawrence's suspension Tuesday in a news release, saying he was relieved those involved in the crash were not more seriously injured.

"We will respond accordingly when all of the facts of this matter have been collected," Gonzalez said. "Effective immediately, Keon Lawrence has been suspended from the team indefinitely."

Lawrence scored 13 points on five-of-five shooting in Seton Hall's one exhibition game this season. He probably would have started in the Pirates' season opener against St. Peter's on Friday night. (AP)

McKendree coach wins No. 999 — McKendree University coach Harry Statham picked up his 999th victory as the Bearcats defeated Graceland 71-59 in Lamoni, Iowa. Junior forward Eric Hobbie scored 25 points to help McKendree stay unbeaten at 4-0.

Statham, in his 44th season as head coach at his alma mater, is 999-381. He is the all-time wins leader in men's college basketball history at the four-year level. He could become the first men's senior-level coach to reach 1,000 if McKendree wins Friday night at home in the McKendree Classic against East-West University.

The Bearcats used a 12-0 run to turn a 24-17 deficit into a 29-24 lead in the final minute of the first half. McKendree opened the second half with a 14-5 run to grab a 43-32 lead. (From news services)
