Bert Reed's 3-yard touchdown run with 1:36 left lifted Florida State to a 45-42 victory at home over North Carolina State. NC State had taken its first lead, 42-38, with 3:50 left when Russell Wilson found Jarvis Williams for his third touchdown catch of the game.



Rutgers 28, Connecticut 24 — Tim Brown, a boyhood friend of slain UConn cornerback Jasper Howard, scored on an 81-yard TD pass with 22 seconds left to give the visiting Scarlet Knights an improbable victory in UConn's first home game since the cornerback was murdered.

Oregon State 26, UCLA 19 — Jacquizz Rodgers had 112 yards rushing, 96 yards receiving and a touchdown pass and his brother James ran for the winning score as the Beavers won at home to send UCLA to 0-5 in the Pac-10.

California 23, Arizona State 21 — Giorgio Tavecchio kicked a 24-yard field goal with 21 seconds left, sending visiting California to victory.

Elsewhere — Bernard Pierce rushed for 267 yards, including a 41-yard TD with 2:41 left, to help Temple win 27-24 at Navy. The Owls won their sixth straight game, their longest streak since 1974, and became eligible for a bowl. They haven't played in one since the 1979 Garden State Bowl. ... Anthony Dixon rushed for two touchdowns and a school-record 252 yards as Mississippi State won at Kentucky 31-24. ...
