Vahe Gregorian's pooch punts
— The most moving and even surreal moment of the college football season came last week in East Hartford, Conn., where Rutgers receiver Tim Brown went 81 yards for the game-winning touchdown against Connecticut … in a game he dedicated to late Huskies cornerback Jasper Howard, the childhood friend from Miami who had been stabbed to death two weeks earlier. "I almost felt like his angel wings reached down and flew me to the end zone for a touchdown," Brown told reporters after the game. — As far as has been publicized, the NCAA's suspension for the season of Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant and denial of a final appeal on Thursday has been for lying about a meeting. Not taking a car, or a house or money, as some at other seemingly more favored institutions have been caught doing in recent years with little or no penalty. Would the NCAA have done the same if Bryant were at, say, USC or Ohio State? — Just weeks after coach Mark Mangino suggested quarterback Todd Reesing deserved consideration for the Heisman Trophy, he benched him with KU trailing 35-21 with seven minutes left in last week's 42-21 loss to Texas Tech.
