The visiting Lafayette Lancers scored on their final four possessions, coming away with a 38-22 victory over McCluer North on Saturday in a Class 6 sectional.

The Lancers (8-3) will play defending state champion Hazelwood Central (10-1) in the quarterfinals next weekend in a game to be hosted by the Hawks.

North finished 6-5.

After a scoreless first quarter, North went up on an Alex Beckman field goal, but Lafayette answered with scoring runs from J.T. Miller (11 yards) and Thomas Swoboda (2 yards) to go up 14-3.

A 69-yard touchdown pass from North's Galen Brown to Nevar Griffin cut the Lancers' halftime lead to 14-10.

The Stars went up 16-14 in the third quarter, thanks to a 2-yard run from Tyran Carey.

Lafayette regained the lead at 17-16 on a Nick Aussieker field goal and stretched the lead to 24-16 as Miller hooked up with Brandon Graft on a 12-yard scoring pass with 17 seconds left in the third quarter.

A 52-yard TD pass from Brown to Anthony Kirkwood-Addison helped the Stars cut the Lancers' lead to 24-22 with 11:19 to play. North's run for two failed.

Lafayette closed out the victory with late scoring runs from Swoboda and Tyrone Stainback.

"It was the best we've played together as a team all year,'' said Miller, who threw for 156 yards in the victory.

Greenville 29, Fairfield 21 — Ranked second among Post-Dispatch small schools, the visiting Comets improved to 11-0 and earned a spot in the Class 3A quarterfinals against visiting Pana (8-3) next weekend.

Casey-Westfield 43, Red Bud 7 — The top-seeded Warriors (11-0) won the Class 2A road game, ending the season for the Musketeers (8-3), ranked 10th among area small schools.
