Rams' Steven Jackson sits out practice with sore back
Asked what his holiday plans are after practice today, Rams running back Steven Jackson laughed and said, "Get off my feet." And, he might have added, allow his sore lower back to calm down. Jackson, whose 1,031 rushing yards are second in the NFL, has been suffering back spasms since Sunday's game and sat out practice Wednesday. "Anyone that's had any back problems knows that it's just one of those things where you've got to wait it out. There's really nothing you can do," Jackson said. "I've spent countless hours (at Rams Park) since Sunday, trying to get it back together." Other players sit out — In addition to Jackson and quarterback Marc Bulger, fullback Mike Karney (neck), tackle Jason Smith (concussion) and punter Donnie Jones (illness) were out Wednesday. Linebacker Chris Chamberlain (concussion) was limited. Guard Richie Incognito (foot), who has missed three games, did some individual drills. "He's getting there, but it might be tight for this week," coach Steve Spagnuolo said. Ram-blings — With defensive end C.J. Ah You (knee) going on injured reserve, tight end Eric Butler has been promoted to the active roster. Free-agent defensive end Sean Conover was signed to take Butler's spot on the practice squad. He's had stints with Tennessee and Detroit. ... This week's captains are Jackson (offense), cornerback Ron Bartell (defense) and returner Danny Amendola (special teams). ... Today's practice has been moved up about 40 minutes, to 10:55 a.m., so the players and coaches can get away early on Thanksgiving. — Bill Coats
