SLU lands recruits from Chicago
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

St. Louis University made a foray into Chicago with this year's basketball recruiting class.

Dwayne Evans, a 6-5 forward from Neuqua Valley High in Bolingbrook, Ill., near Chicago, signed a letter of intent, and SLU also has a commitment from Mike McCall, a 6-1 guard from Foreman High in Chicago.

The school did not receive McCall's letter on Wednesday and has not announced the signing.

Evans averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game last season as Neuqua Valley went 31-2, and he's on the honor roll at Neuqua. His sister, Janice, is a senior captain on the Washington University women's basketball team.

"Dwayne's a good rebounder and a real good athlete," SLU coach Rick Majerus said. "He's an excellent competitor. He can play three positions, anything but point and center, and the best thing is he can defend three positions, and possibly point guard."

McCall averaged 14 points, five assists and three rebounds as a junior. He is ranked sixth among Illinois seniors by ChicagoHoops.com. Evans is ranked No. 18.

Those signings bring SLU to the limit of 13 scholarships (plus Paul Eckerle, who can go back on an academic scholarship if needed), though one could open up depending on what happens with Cody Ellis, who has yet to be cleared to play by the NCAA. His case is still on appeal.
