Basketball, volleyball doubleheader at SLU
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

After less than two weeks of practice, St. Louis U.'s men's basketball team takes to the court for the first time tonight for an exhibition game against Arkansas-Fort Smith at Chaifetz Arena. The game is the second half of a doubleheader with SLU's women's volleyball team, which plays Fordham at 6 p.m. The basketball game is expected to tip off at 8.

It will be the first look at SLU's five true freshmen and redshirt freshman Femi John, who will be joined by just four sophomores on the only Division I team with just one junior or senior. (And that player, junior Paul Eckerle, will likely miss the whole season with a knee injury.) Coach Rick Majerus said all 10 will play tonight.

Arkansas-Fort Smith is a former junior college that has become a four-year school and will be a provisional member of Division II this season. Former Billiken Maurice Jeffers played at the school when it was Westark Community College.
