Each month the Granite City Rotary Club recognizes outstanding students at Granite City High School. Two students each month are selected for the honor based on academic and extracurricular and civic leadership. The following individuals were selected as Student of the Month:
September: Katelyn Peck and Cain Salas. Peck is the daughter of Keith and Jennifer Peck. She ranks 17th in her class and has lettered in academics for the past three years. She has received several academic honors and is a member of the varsity tennis team. She is a member of the Calvary Life Church youth group and helps with the food ministry and pantry.
• Salas is the son of Bill and Kris Salas. Chris and Daniella Janek are his guardians. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was on the varsity wrestling team. He is a recipient of the National High School Coaching Association Academic All-American award.
October: Haley Kutosky and Dane Grote. Kutosky is the daughter of Bull and Holly Kutosky. She has been on the honor roll for the past two years. She is an active member of the science and social studies club and also participates in Working Warriors. She has been a member of the varsity soccer and swim teams. She volunteers at the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Refuge and Busch Stadium's Green Team.
• Grote is the son of Barry and Tracie Grote. He ranks 12th in his class. He has been a member of the Renaissance Club for three years, and has participated in the Working Warriors, science and social studies clubs. He is a member of the varsity soccer team, swim team and the Varsity Club. He is a candle lighter at First Presbyterian Church.
November: Kelly O'Keefe and Natalie O'Keefe. Kelly O'Keefe is the son of Tim and Beverly O'Keefe. He has participated in drama club, improv troupe, cross country, scholar bowl and Warrior Voices. He was also named in the Renaissance Top Ten and was received the Personal Choice and Character Trait of the Month awards. He volunteers with the Glenview Assembly of God.
• Natalie O'Keefe, Kelly's twin sister, and has received several academic and athletic awards. She placed in several varsity track events, and earned varsity letters in cross country, track and basketball. She peer tutors, is involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and a youth group.
December: Haley Broyles and Jon Wojtowicz. Broyles is the daughter of Stephanie Broyles. She has been on the honor roll and secondary honors program for two years. She is a member of science, social studies, renaissance, varsity and journalism clubs and is a cross country and basketball athlete. Broyles has also volunteered at Treehouse Wildlife and Girls on the Run.
• Wojtowicz is the son of Ken and Kathy Wojtowicz. He has volunteered at the Old Six Mile Community Garden and is involved with the St. Clair Saddle Club. He is a member of spirit and hockey club and has played volleyball.
January: Leeza Ann Hubbard and Aaron Peach. Hubbard is the daughter of Lea Ann Baker and Jim Hubbard. She has volunteered at the State Farm Golf Classic and is active in the Grace Church Youth Group. She has been a member of the secondary honors program and is enrolled in accelerated classes. She is a member of the golf team and varsity club.
• Peach is the son of Terry and Diane Peach. He is a member of renaissance club, the youth group at St. John United Church of Christ and the Sheltered Reality drum group. He has been on the honor roll and has been a member of the swim, soccer and tennis team, and has participated in Working Warriors, Big Brothers Big Sisters and peer tutoring.
February: Kathryn Krieshole and Aeshylus Augustin. Krieshole is the daughter of Mary Ellen Krieshole. She is a member of renaissance and has received the secondary honor and the Path of the Warrior awards. She is the secretary of social studies club, and participates in yearbook, science and photography club.
• Augustin is the son of Alfons and Anneleen Augustin. He is active in the community, having worked with the Red Cross, Scott Air Force Base, on city election campaigns and with St. Elizabeth Church. He is the junior class president and is in the secondary honors program. Augustin has participated in student council, tennis, Warrior Guiding Warriors, Working Warriors, wrestling, cross country, as well as foreign language, social studies and science clubs.
