Six Mile Regional Library District received a nearly $1,000 "Business and Libraries: Working Together" award from the state. The library district will receive a tablet computer and collection of business-related books. The award is meant to create new economic growth in communities by providing technology and knowledge to businesses and entrepreneurs.
The district also received $44,873 in grants from the state. The money is part of the Illinois Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid program, that helps pay for expenses such as materials, personnel, equipment, electronic access, telecommunications and technology as well as ensures library systems with a low library tax base can reach a minimum level of funding for services. Other area institutions to receive the grants were Madison Public Library ($3,990 and Venice Public Library ($1,938).
