State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) has been named "Legislator of the Year" by the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police.

• Allied Waste/Republic Services has announced that Maryville has won $1,500 by reaching their recycling goal. From May through July, the village recycled over 174 tons of waste, a 21 percent increase over last year's amount for the same period.
