LEGAL
Barry Julian of Gori Julian & Associates, P.C., was certified as a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Membership in the forum is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts, awards and settlements. Julian specializes in asbestos litigation, benzene litigation and personal injury. He graduated from St. Louis University School of Law and has been a practicing attorney since 1995.
GOVERNMENT
U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello received the Right Arm of St. Louis Award from the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association on Jan. 26. The award is the most prestigious given by the RCGA and honors outstanding contributions to the St. Louis region.
SMALL BUSINESS
• SERVPRO, a disaster recovery and restoration franchise company in Edwardsville and Granite City, was ranked fourth on Entrepreneur's Franchise 500 List. SERVPRO specializes in fire and water cleanup, restoration and repair services to residential and commercial costumers.
• Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc., a consulting engineering firm in Edwardsville, joined the RiverBend Growth Association. The association serves as the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for the 11 communities that make up the Riverbend.
LAW ENFORCEMENT
Several area members of law enforcement were recognized at the Southwestern Illinois Law Enforcement Commission and Southern Illinois Police Chief's Association awards banquet last month.
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen Wigginton and retired Law Enforcement Coordinator for the U.S. Attorney's Office Southern District of Illinois Ronald Shownes were presented with the Olympian Award.
The Telecommunicator Award, which recognizes competency, dedication and consistency in telecommunicators, was awarded to Michele Russell of the Troy Police Department and Jason Thatcher and Edward Hoover of the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
Sgt. James Newcombe of the Troy Police Department received the Law Enforcement Certificate of Merit, which salutes personnel who perform above and beyond expectations.
The Outstanding Citizen award was given to Scott Radunz, of Troy. The award honors citizens who made a significant contribution to law enforcement.
Sgt. Darin Trent of the Madison County Sheriff's Department, Tim Andrews of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Police Department and Wilbert Jeremias of the Collinsville Police Department were recipients of the Life Saving Award, for making a life-saving act.
The new board of officers was also introduced. They include President Robert Rizza of the Troy Police Department; Vice President Richard Miller of the Granite City Police Department; Treasurer Terry Bell of the Highland City Police Department; and Secretary David Hayes of the Alton Police Department
EDUCATION
Greg Conroy was named general manager of WSIE-FM, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's radio station. He worked for more than 24 years in public affairs at SIUE. Doug McIlhagga replaces him as director of marketing and external affairs. McIlhagga comes from external affairs at St. Louis University.
