The Madison County Sheriff's Department investigated no homicides in unincorporated areas of the county, just the second time in 40 years, according to Sheriff Robert J. Hertz's annual report.

The report says the patrol division investigated 32 reported criminal sexual assaults, 18 robberies and 90 aggravated batteries or assaults. In all, the department investigated 1,231 property crimes (including burglary, thefts from cars, thefts, car thefts and arsons).

Deputies arrested 96 people for alleged driving under the influence (16 more than in 2011). The department handled eight fatal car accidents. The investigation division filed 543 felony cases; up from 400 in 2011.
