To the editor:
Special thanks should be given to the Collinsville school board, township officials and many concerned taxpayers who spoke against the St. Louis Road TIF District. There is currently $4 million of unused TIF money. Of this, $2.4 million would be with our school district.
The TIF districts have never hired one school teacher, put gas in any school buses or replaced any portable classrooms. TIF funds are available to purchase for more city blocks for the downtown revival.
The Collinsville Chamber of Commerce could not wait to voice their displeasure with not pushing the St. Louis Road TIF District at the Aug. 27 council meeting. Many members have used TIF funds to repair and maintain their properties, thanks to the use of taxpayer funds to pay 40 percent of their repairs.
It is hard to justify $500,000 on the Apex Building, $1.5 million for the dress factory and moving of the Collins House, and $1.2 million for the Highway 159 mini-parks. Taxpayers can honk their horns when they pass the Chamber of Commerce's new awning. Be happy! You paid for it!
