Need is no secret and donations to the United Way can help
It is no secret that the need in our community is critical and continues to grow. Fortunately, we can help. Time and time again this community has rallied together to help people through United Way. As the 2012 campaign chair of the Southwest Illinois Division of United Way of Greater St. Louis, I am asking for your support to help our neighbors, family and friends.
United Way member agencies have been severely affected by the economic stress. While funding has decreased, demand for services has significantly increased. Eighty-eight percent of United Way agencies reported an increased demand for services. United Way support provides partner agencies stable funding that can be used for anything from starting a new program to keeping their doors open. This means United Way agencies can continue to provide vital services to one in three people in our region. From basic needs to specialized care, United Way member agencies were able to help more than 190,000 people in Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin and Madison counties. But we need your support to continue.
Your support matters. It matters to the mother who cannot provide the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing for her children. It matters to the homebound senior citizen who is unable to cook for himself and depends on nutritious meals being delivered to his home. It matters to the father that lost his job, but can receive job skills and training courses to regain full-time employment. To them, it matters a lot.
When you give to United Way, you can help that mother, that homebound senior citizen and that father. More than 90 cents of every dollar collected will go to help people and the money raised here stays here.
Please join me and thousands of others in this community by giving to United Way to help us meet our goal to raise $1.83 million.
We can work together to increase our support of these agencies to meet the growing demand of vital services. Thank you for all you do for our community. We are looking forward to another successful campaign.
