Kirkwood resident Kevin Walsh, a 2009 graduate of CBC High School and a sophomore sports management major at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, was part of the team that finished third nationally in the College Sport Research Institute's case study competition. The competition was held during the institute's annual conference on April 19 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Loras College is the only college in the country whose teams have placed in the top three in each of the last four College Sport Research Institute or Sports Marketing Association competitions.
The case study involved a 1,000-word essay submitted in advance, critiquing the decision of Elon University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to reclassify from NCAA Division II to Division I. The presentation required students to incorporate the principles used in their paper to articulate whether or not the University of North Alabama should also reclassify.
