Four middle school students allegedly tried Monday to sexually assault a female student at Hazelwood West Middle School, according to police.
Four boys, ages 12, 13, 13 and 14, allegedly attacked the girl about 3 p.m. in a boys bathroom at the school at 12834 Missouri Bottom Road, Hazelwood Police said in a statement.
Three of the four boys have been interviewed and referred to the St. Louis Family Court. Charges of attempted forcible rape, second-degree sexual assault and injurious behavior are being sought. The fourth boy is still under investigation.
The district sent out a letter Thursday, May 5, to the parents of West Middle School students that "the students directly involved in the sexual misconduct were removed from school premises."
"From what's been reported, this behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Hazelwood School District spokesperson Diana Gulotta said. "We will fully cooperate with the police in this investigation."
