Cut the postal executives
If they cut 28,000 positions from the Postal Service, I hope about half of them are the people that are up in the penthouse. We need our letter carriers; we don't need the bosses. The bosses just sit at a desk and make stupid decisions. It's the men and women who are out there in the snow, in the heat, delivering mail. And in case you're wondering, no, I'm not a letter carrier and neither is anyone in my family. But I do appreciate the person that brings my mail to me.
Don't rebuild Kingshighway bridge
Rumor has it that the next bridge that's going to be redone is the bridge on South Kingshighway, just south of Highway 44. Cost is expected to be $20 million. My question is this: Why is this bridge even there? Just tear it down and make it a straight four-lane street. Costs would have to be cheaper. It would definitely be safer. Both sides of the bridge now are on a downward slope. There's been countless accidents in the winter with this bridge. Tell MoDOT to beautify South Kingshighway. Tear the bridge down.
Roll with the tide
I'm calling about the Town Talk, "Are the parents married?" Half the time, no, the parents are not married because times have changed. Now people have babies without being married. That's not a requirement anymore and apparently nobody seems to looks down on it but the old-fashioned people. I wasn't brought up that way. I was married before I had my child and that's how I'm bringing up my child. But times have changed; we just have to deal with it.
Shop all you want
If it's unfair for retail shops to be open on Thanksgiving night, then maybe the hospitals and everything should be closed, so that way, people can't help in the hospitals — if you think it's rude that people go shopping on Thanksgiving. Then doctors, nurses, they should all be off duty. So, think about it.
We need to make more things here
This is in answer to the lady that wrote the article, "Don't we make anything?" She was inquiring as to why all this stuff is made in India and El Salvador and Sri Lanka. I have the same question to ask. No wonder there are so many people out of work. Why are all these clothes being made in these foreign countries? What politician or president put that into effect? Why don't we make these things in the United States? Then we wouldn't have any unemployment.
Federal police needed at JB
Mike Broughton, what's wrong with you? We need these federal police to patrol Jefferson Barracks. They do not only patrol the cemetery, but they patrol the whole complex. There are so many different offices down there, the rehabs, the doctors' offices and nurses, the pharmacy, the hearing, the speech. These GIs who have lost their limbs and so forth. Servicemen who are confined to the hospital there. I work out every day at the gym, and I see what is going on. I know they don't need SUVs, but we do need the federal police to patrol that whole area, not just the cemetery. What do you drive? Is it American-made?
Schools in shocking disarray
I'm just shocked and dismayed to see these city and other county school districts that are in such disarray. I'm a high school graduate from the state of Nebraska. We had only four teachers in high school one year. I was able to graduate from a prestigious eastern university. I was an engineering manager all my life in the St. Louis area. I think it's crazy what's going on.
What's wrong with 'Merry Christmas'?
I wonder, and I'm sure there are others who wonder as well, just who mandated that all of our precious service people overseas must wish their families "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." Most of them grew up with Christmas. Those of other religions should be able to give their greetings according to their backgrounds. Americans are being told what we can say and what we must do. Our forefathers established our wonderful country, and to see it torn apart is so sad.
