Ameren rate request excessive
I just heard on the news that Ameren Missouri wants to raise their rates nearly 15 percent. It's getting a little out of hand with all these utilities companies wanting a rate hike, and I haven't had a raise in three years. Someone's going to get hurt, probably the cable company. I don't mind watching Channel 2, 4, 5, 11 and 30. There's nothing on cable anyway but a bunch of commercials and old reruns. What's going to happen is that people are going to start dropping their cable or their Netflix. What comes around, goes around.
No more money for dome
What's this I hear about the Rams wanting to invest $120 million in renovations in the domed stadium? Say what? Sixty million dollars they want from taxpayers. If this comes up for a vote, I will vote "no." They want to put in windows in the domed stadium. They learned nothing from the new Busch Stadium. The shadows on the field will be unavoidable. Maybe the Rams can use that as an excuse when they miss a pass. One hundred-twenty million dollars on improvements; that's outrageous. We could use that money for more police protection, which the city of St. Louis needs. Stop the madness: vote "no" on any tax hikes for the dome.
Stop honking
Attention, horn honkers: I wonder if you could drive a car if it didn't have a horn. Can you believe there are horn honkers when you're in line for lunch at a fast-food restaurant, and you can't go fast enough for them? So they honk the horn at you, which is ridiculous, because sometimes the ladies that take your money are slow, Go inside and talk to them if you don't like the rate of speed. If you're that hungry, park your car and go in and order your lunch. But please, don't be so rude as to honk your horn. Maybe she's a senior citizen and she's slow. Women do it as well as men. Let's be considerate of our fellow man. Love thy neighbor as thyself and get off the horn.
Sometimes parents are at fault
This is in regard to the caller saying kids need to visit elderly parents more. Maybe the kids stay away because the parent doesn't appreciate anything. They gossip too much or are miserable to be around. Also, it's not fair for one sibling to step up and do this while the brothers and sisters never come around. I've tried to be kind to my mom, but she's rude and the siblings do nothing. So I will be like them and live my life. You don't know the kids' side of the story. You're only looking at the elderly parent.
Cop did the right thing
I heard on the news where there's a wrongful death suit filed against a St. Louis police officer for a shooting. This guy drove a car at him. What is the cop supposed to do, say, "Have you got a gun?" because the man was unarmed? And now they've filed a lawsuit for his 1-year-old daughter. I hope they throw that lawsuit out. This bum probably never paid one month's child support. I'm sick of hearing this business about police officers shooting unnecessarily. My husband was a police officer, and he told me if you had to kill somebody it would almost kill you, that you couldn't live with yourself. So get off of the cops' back and put these criminals where they belong.
It's not OK, at any time
"It's the times." To me, it is an excuse to ignore what is going on in our world today. Few people do anything about it. Why? Because it's easier to say "It's the times." No, time has not changed, but people have by taking an easy excuse out. Who said it's acceptable for same-sex unions? Who said it's acceptable for couples to have children out of marriage? Does the Bible say, "It's the times"? I'm not a holier-than-thou, but I feel that nowhere in the Bible it says, "This is all OK because it's the times."
Stop sending junk mail
I'm calling in regards to this mail that I've been receiving time after time after time. It's from Social Security and Medicare about how all they're going to do for us about saving Social Security and Medicare and so on. I don't have money to send to them. They're just wasting paper, which was supposed to save the trees, I thought. Why does this go on and on and nobody can do anything about getting them to stop? Are we supposed to keep collecting junk mail? I don't have money to send to them. Anybody alive today knows what the conditions are for older people.
Why share sales tax?
Question: Why should other municipalities share their sales tax with high-crime areas, when we are afraid to enter our shop in these areas because of the high crime rate?
Primary a waste of money
Missouri is having a hard time with money, like most of the other states. Because of that, I'm wondering who, of our representatives of this state, gave the OK to hold an election that doesn't count. We need to get some smart people to run this state, rather than someone who thought it was a good idea to pay thousands of dollars for an election that was called a "beauty pageant."
Cereal aisle is unhealthy
The media is always publishing what's wrong with feeding children and everybody else at the fast-food markets and even diners. And I just happened to walk by a cereal aisle in one of our major marketplaces. I was surprised and disgusted to see the whole aisle full of cereal covered with honey and sugar and chocolate and whatnot. So why don't nutritionists take a look at the major marketplaces to see what they're selling that shouldn't be eaten, and worry about the kids themselves?
Clean out your garage
I just recently moved out here to Oakville, and I can't understand why nobody can park in their garage, but when I see the garage door open, seems like they've got more junk in there than they're allowed to have. And they can't park their cars in there. Wouldn't it better if you haven't used your stuff in a year to get rid of it so you can park your car in the garage? Then you wouldn't have to scrape the ice and snow off yours.
