Don't blame Pujols for leaving

In reading Town Talk, I read my fellow St. Louisans wrenching about Albert and Deidre Pujols. Get real. We were lucky to have him and his family here at all. A godly man, a great role model, a true star. And I ask: Who among us would turn down a fabulous contract from a group thrilled to have him? I for one wish him and his family all the very, very best.

Baseball surely has changed

All the talk about ballplayers' actions and salaries reminds me constantly of what it used to be back when I was a child in the 1930s and possibly up to the '40s. We were given free passes. We could get in free on days off from school or after school. We knew where players exited the stadium. It was the old Sportsman's Park, of course, and we would wait for them to come out, and we would get their autographs at the gate. What a difference it is now. None of them ever considered asking us for money for their autographs. And their salaries in those days, of course, ranged in the thousands instead of the millions. What a change half a century has made.

Go to church every Sunday

Was church crowded when you were there on Christmas Day? I'll bet it was because all the "C and Es" managed to go to a church on Christmas. The "C and Es" always come on Christmas Day because the "C and Es" are the Christmas-and-Easter Christians. What about the other 50 Sundays a year? Come on. Let's go to church and spend an hour with God every Sunday at the church of your choice. And take the children along because the family that prays together stays together.

Housekeepers should be paid hourly

What I'd like to know is if these house cleaning ladies are paid by the hour or by the job. I always figure they should get paid by the hour. They don't pay taxes. I hope they do declare their taxes like everybody else does. I would think they should make $10 to $12 an hour rather than just say "I get $50 or $60 or $75." Let's take a look at it and see what your housekeeper charges — the one that comes in and cleans your whole house in 2-1/2 hours or three hours and then expects $50 to $70. That's kind of ridiculous. It doesn't take a college education to wash a floor and vacuum a carpet.

Shut down stores for Christmas

I just want to say that I think it's great that the stores and restaurants are closed and people can spend Christmas Day with their families. I wish more people would do that.

County shouldn't help Dellwood

Why doesn't St. Louis County give up on Dellwood? If they want to have their own police department, let them. We don't need them out here. For crying out loud, we've got enough municipalities. Let them go on their merry way, whether they sink or swim, without our help.
