The SCC Photography Invitational will be on display through March 4 in the gallery of the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building on the St. Charles Community College's campus, 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville.
The Photography Invitational will be shown in conjunction with the University of Missouri-St. Louis Student Photography Exhibition. The participating invitational artists include Robert Boettcher, Richard Glass, Beth Goyer, Hillary Hitchcock, Donald J. McKenna and Bob Rikert.
An opening reception will take place from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 1 in the gallery.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Call for entries
A Senior Moments All Media Art Show and Competition will take place Feb. 3 through April 2 at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd. The show is open to all high school and college seniors, as well as individuals 55 years or older.
The cost to enter as an center member is $15 for up to four pieces. Non-members can submit up to three pieces for $20. Artwork is due between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the center.
An awards reception will take place from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 3.

Gain painting experience
Artist Jerry Thomas will offer a class series, Color in Depth, from 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 4, March 3, April 14, June 2, July 7, Aug. 4, Sept. 1 and Oct. 13 at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd.
The series will provide participants with an extensive look at the nine fundamental colors used in painting. The class will explore the variations of each color, its tints, shades, tones, black mixtures and other unique characteristics.
Cost is $26. Participants may attend as many sessions as needed.

SCC announces Black History Month events
St. Charles Community College will host a variety of events in honor of Black History Month. All events are free and open to the public. Events will take place in the auditorium of the Social Sciences Building (unless otherwise noted), 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, Cottleville.
Frank Meeink Lecture: A Former Skinhead's Fight Against Prejudice will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 7. Meeink will share the story of his descent into America's Nazi underground and his ultimate triumph over hatred and addiction. A book signing will follow the lecture.
Bobby Norfolk: Storytelling for All Ages will take place at 10 a.m. Feb. 8. Norfolk is an internationally known story performer and three-time Emmy Award winner.
David Kirton will perform at noon Feb. 15 at the Plaza Bistro in the Student Center.
The film, "Throw Down Your Heart," will screen at 7 p.m. Feb. 23.

In motion
The Human Figure in Motion will take place from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Feb. 7 and ending Feb. 28 at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd.
Jerry Thomas will teach participants the skills of creating axis lines, foreshortening, center of gravity, energy lines, thrust, opposition of movements and accurate proportion. These skills will allow participants to create a more life-like and active human figure.
Cost is $104.

Enrichment workshops at Foundry
The Teacher Enrichment Workshop will take place from 5:45-7 p.m. Feb. 7, March 6 and April 3 at the Foundry Art Centre, 520 N. Main Center in St. Charles. The workshops are specifically designed for art teachers and offer hands-on activities for teachers to take back to their art classroom.
Instructor Fran Null, with over 30 years of elementary art instruction experience, will present fresh ideas loaded with lots of twists and possibilities. Participants will leave with completed projects and a packet of handouts.
Cost is $10 per workshop for Foundry Art Centre members and $12 per workshop for non-members.

Genealogy classes make a comeback
Genealogy classes will take place from 1-3 p.m. or 6-8 p.m. Feb. 8 at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd. These classes offer participants to learn and discover who they are.
Cindy DuBois, the city's arts leader and genealogist, will teach the genealogy classes. Genealogy 101-102 will provide participants with information to help discover their ancestral heritage. DuBois will teach about Internet research options as well as other places to go to acquire information. The resources can be used to discover who you are and where you came from.
For the experienced genealogists, Genealogy 201 will take place from 1-3 p.m. or 6-8 p.m. March 13 a the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre. This class will provide information to help participants to overcome any obstacles that they might endure along the way. DuBois will teach about preserving photographs and sharing them with others. Participants will be encouraged to write their family's story.
Cost is $7 for each class and includes a light dessert.

Art demonstration
A demonstration of "Moonlit Winter Night" in acrylics will take place from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 8 at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd.
Jerry Thomas will provide reference materials during the demonstration. Refreshments will be available and registration is not required.

The 47th Annual Crystal Gala will take place Feb. 11 at the Columns Banquet Center, 711 Veterans Memorial Pkwy. in St. Charles. Proceeds from the event will help raise funds for a building for the Boys and Girls Club.

A culinary experience
Midwest Grape & Wine announces the Wine & Dine: The Ultimate Regional Culinary Experience to take place from 6:30-10 p.m. Feb. 11 at the St. Charles Convention Center, 1 Convention Center Plaza in St. Charles.
An international culinary team has created a premier menu featuring 14 wines from five Midwestern states paired with six custom designed courses. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the magnitude of cuisine.
Cost is $95 per person and includes tax and gratuity.

Fundraising event to clean up Main Street
iCare 2012 is a volunteer initiative to raise money for supplies and materials needed for a clean up effort. The event will take place from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Grand Opera House, 311 N. Main St. in St. Charles.
The event will include appetizers, entertainment, a cash bar, silent auction, 50/50 raffle and more. Proceeds will help with the clean up effort — focused on removing trash and graffiti along North Main Street and Riverview.
Cost to the event is $20 per person or $35 per couple.
The clean up effort event will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 1.

Bunco and barbecue
O'Fallon is planning a Bunco and BBQ event from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Renaud Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle in O'Fallon.
Cost is $10 for O'Fallon residents and $12 for non-residents, which includes lunch and Bunco prizes.

Mystery & Mayhem day trip
The Mystery & Mayhem day trip will take place March 14. The motor coach will pick participants up at 9 a.m. on the main parking lot at Civic Park in O'Fallon and drop off participants by 4 p.m.
Activities include a CSI-inspired tour of the historic Hanley House for a look at diseases of the 19th century, followed by a trip to the famous Bissell Mansion Restaurant & Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre for a three-course meal and four-act mystery. Each participant will be offered to play a role in the mystery, which is not mandatory.
The cost of the trip is $85 for O'Fallon residents and $95 for non-residents which includes transportation, admissions, and escort, tours, mystery dinner theatre meal and show, taxes and gratuities.

Spring ArtWalk call for entries
The St. Charles Riverfront Arts announced a call for entry for the 7th Spring ArtWalk event, which will take place April 27 through 29 along North Main Street.
Participating businesses provide display space for the artists and assist in attracting customers and sales. Proceeds from the event will benefit St. Charles Riverfront Arts' efforts to promote visual and performing arts throughout the St. Charles community.
There is no entry fee and no commission on the artists' sales for this artist-friendly event. Work must be submitted no later than March 1.
