Broemmelsiek Park

Total acreage: 494 acres

Location: at the intersection of Schwede and Wilson roads, off Highway DD

Several structures built on what is now Broemmelsiek Park can be dated to the mid-1800s. The park offers an off-leash dog area, with a small water feature where dogs may swim; more than seven miles of trail open to hiking, bicycling and equestrian use; picnic shelters available for rent; the county's first public astronomy viewing area; and fishing lakes.

Heritage Park and Museum

Total acreage: 1.5 acres

Location: near the intersection of Highway 364 (Page Avenue extension) and Highway 94

Heritage Park serves as a trailhead on Centennial Trail, a 2.2-mile path along the Page extension corridor from the Katy Trail to Heritage Museum.

The museum is a restored and renovated home built in 1857, with an adjoining reconstructed barn and summer kitchen area. Exhibits detail the site's history, archaeological discovery in the region, why German emigrants settled in St. Charles County, how they traveled to the region and their role in the community once they arrived. Hideaway Harbor Park

Total acreage: 50 acres

Location: off Highway 94 North on Sioux Drive

Located just west of Portage des Sioux, this park offers spectacular views across the Mississippi River toward the Great River Road. Birders also delight in close-up views of the wildlife, including bald eagles that roost in and around the park each winter. The park has two boat ramps that access the Mississippi River, a fishing dock, natural wetlands, forested areas and Weber Lake. Indian Camp Creek Park

Total acreage: 603 acres

Location: on Dietrich Road, one mile west of Highway 61

The largest St. Charles County park, Indian Camp Creek features are a nature-themed playground and 10 miles of multi-use trail, making it the first county park open to equestrian use. The park also has youth-group camping facilities, picnic shelters available for rent, a six-acre fishing pond and a historical interpretive site.

Klondike Park

Total acreage: 250 acres

Location: on Highway 94 South, between Defiance and Augusta

Located just off the Katy Trail, the park offers about five miles of natural and paved trails good for challenging rides or hikes and spectacular views of wildlife, native plants and the surrounding Missouri River Valley. The park has an indoor conference center available for rent. It also has three picnic shelters, camper cabins and tent camping sites, a fishing lake and a boat ramp for access to the Missouri River.

Louis H. Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area

Total acreage: 160 acres

Location: on the Missouri River, south of the Blanchette Memorial Bridge

An island in the Missouri River, the Louis H. Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area (also known as Bangert Island) is operated on a partnership between the Missouri Department of Conservation and the county parks department. Guests may enter the park from the Katy Trail entrance along Old South River Road in St. Charles and then cross a slough that connects Bangert Island to the mainland. The park has 2.6 miles of natural hiking and mountain biking trail. Park guests may also fish along the banks of the Missouri River at the park, although state fishing regulations apply and hunting is prohibited. The park may be closed during high river levels if the trail access is blocked by high water. For information on the status of Bangert Island, call 636-949-7475.

Matson Hill Park

Total acreage: 68 acres

Location: off Matson Hill Road, one mile north of Highway 94

Matson Hill Park rests within the Daniel Boone Historic District, and provides a unique opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts wishing to escape into a heavily forested area. The park reflects the natural surroundings found in the area during the time of Boone's life. Three miles of rugged, natural trail are open to hikers and bicyclists.

Quail Ridge Park

Total acreage: 250 acres

Location: near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Highway 40-61, off Callahan Road

Quail Ridge Park offers rolling pastures, wooded hillsides and rich bottomland near Peruque Creek. Quail Ridge has more than four miles of trail, an indoor lodge available for rent, large-group and individual picnic shelters, playgrounds, a three-acre lake, an 18-hole disc golf course, a small fishing pond and an off-leash dog area. The park is home to the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association Hall of Fame Museum, featuring several courts open for public use.

Towne Park

Total acreage: 109 acres

Location: on Highway 61, about six miles north of Interstate 70

Donated by the late Betty Towne, this site — formerly known as the "Pink Plantation" — has a rich history in St. Charles County. The home at the site, built in 1828, was destroyed by a fire in 2004. Now restoration of the former tobacco plantation and park master planning are under way. Park amenities are to include the restored home, a botanical preserve, a fishing pond, natural trails and picnic areas.

Youth Activity Park

Total acreage: 25 acres

Location: on Highway N, between Bryan Road and Highway 40-61

The Youth Activity Park is designed to provide a safe place for area youth activities. The crown jewel of the YAP is a 33,000-square-foot skate park, which is the largest in the state. Crafted of concrete, the facility offers challenges for every skill level with bowls, ramps, trick rails and more. The park also features an indoor recreation facility, a sand volleyball court, half-court basketball, indoor and outdoor rock-climbing walls, open play fields, a disc golf course, a table-tennis table, and a video-game electronics nook. Blanchette Park

Total acreage: 44 acres

Location: 1900 W. Randolph St.

Blanchette Park features an aquatic center, a banquet facility, ball diamonds, horseshoe and tennis courts as well as a playground and paved hike and bike trail. It also features a sledding hill and the Angel of Hope statue, which honors the memories and families of children who have died.

Frontier Park

Total acreage: 16 acres

Location: 500 S. Riverside Drive

Frontier Park along the Missouri River is the home of many special events throughout the year. It features an outdoor stage, a historic train depot and a paved hike and bike trail.

McNair Park

Total acreage: 98 acres

Location: 3050 Droste Road

McNair Park is split into two sections. The main section features a pool, softball diamonds, a Braille trial, a cross country course and a paved hiking and biking trail. The day camp area features a paved trail, tennis courts, soccer fields, a horseshoe court and sand volleyball courts.

Fountain Lakes Park

Total Acreage: 145 acres

Location: Huster Road via Fountain Lakes Boulevard or Elm Point Road

Fountain Lakes Park features four fishing lakes, a skate park facility and a hiking and biking trail under Highway 370 connecting the two sides of the park.

Wapelhorst Park

Total acreage: 78 acres

Location: 1874 Muegge Road

Wapelhorst Park features an aquatic facility, ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, picnic shelters, sand volleyball courts, a playground, a paved hiking and biking trail and a small fishing lake. It also is home to the George Gould Community Building.

St. Peters parks

St. Peters Rec-Plex

Location: 5200 Mexico Road

The Rec-Plex is a 112,000-square-foot facility that's home to family recreation and athletic events as well as fitness club-quality workout facilities. The complex has an Olympic-sized pool, a family and leisure pool with play features, three NHL-size ice rinks, three gymnasiums, cardio and workout rooms, a food court and more. Daily and annual passes are available for all visitors, with discounts for St. Peters residents.

City Centre Park

Location: 1 City Centre Blvd., at Mexico Road and the entrance to City Hall

City Centre Park offers more than 78 acres of natural beauty and recreation opportunities. The City Centre gazebo is a popular location for outdoor weddings and is available for rent. Amenities include three baseball diamonds, a soccer/football field, biking and hiking trails, an inclusive playground for kids, and a picnic pavilion with barbecue grills. The park also features a grass outdoor amphitheater for music and the performing arts.

Lakeside 370 Park

Location: 1000 Lakeside Park Drive, north of Highway 370

This 300-acre park was expected to open May 19. Plans include a 140-acre recreational lake with fishing and boating, including a canoe channel, picnic areas, pavilions, walking trails around the lake, playgrounds, an RV park, campgrounds, a sand volleyball site and a dog park.

Laurel Park

Location: 181 Driftwood Lane

Amenities at this 40-acre park include a large playground, two ball diamonds, two soccer/football fields, two sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, four horseshoe pits, two picnic pavilions and a multipurpose trail system around the perimeter of the park. Laurel Park is also home to an outdoor swimming pool, two lakes and a roller hockey court.

Old Town Park

Location: 1 Park St.

Old Town Park is St. Peters' original park. More than 100 years old, this park is still a favorite of the community, offering two ball diamonds, four horseshoe pits, two pavilions and a playground. Old Town Park is also home to the annual St. Peters Olde Tyme Picnic.

Rabbit Run

Location: 10 Mayfield Road

Rabbit Run Park covers more than 19 acres in the Country Hill South subdivision. Park amenities include two ball diamonds, three soccer/football fields, a gazebo and a full-service pavilion.

Spencer Creek Park

Location: 100 Sutters Mill Road

Spencer Creek Park is located on 32 acres in the heart of Spencer Creek subdivision. A ball diamond, basketball court, football/soccer field, two tennis courts, a playground, pavilion and extensive trail system offer a variety of recreation opportunities for park visitors.

O'Fallon parks

Civic Park

Total acreage: 20 acres

Location: Civic Park Drive and Main Street

Civic Park is home to Civic Hall, a pavilion, two playgrounds, a bandstand, two horseshoe pits, picnic areas and the O'Fallon Historical Society Log Cabin Museum. The park also is the site of Alligator's Creek, an outdoor aquatics center that features a one-meter spring diving board, a lazy river and two water slides. The facility is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Dames Park

Total acreage: 59 acres

Location: Dames Park Drive off Highway P

This park features football fields, pavilions, playgrounds, concessions, an asphalt bike and walking path and a fitness course. Dames Park also is home of the Omer Dames War Memorial, commemorating St. Charles County soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.

Fort Zumwalt Park

Total acreage: 47.5 acres

Location: Veterans Memorial Parkway at Highway K

Fort Zumwalt Park features fishing and a walking path as well as several historical sites, including Zumwalt's Fort, the restored Darius Heald Home and a War of 1812 fort site.

O'Fallon Sports Park/Renaud Spirit Center

Total acreage: 95 acres

Location: Sportspark Drive, west of Highway K

O'Fallon Sports Park is home to the Renaud Spirit Center, a 66,000-square-foot fitness and aquatic facility that features a natatorium with lap lanes, a water slide and other play features; a gymnasium for basketball and volleyball; an indoor track; a food court; and a supervised kids' corner. Memberships are available for O'Fallon residents and those who live outside the city. The Sports Park includes a 12-field soccer complex, a children's garden, two pavilions and a playground.

Ozzie Smith Sports Complex

Total acreage: 76 acres

Location: T.R. Hughes Boulevard

The showcase of this complex is T.R. Hughes Ballpark, home to the River City Rascals baseball team. It also has seven lit baseball/softball diamonds and a playground, and is home to the St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame.

Westhoff Park

Total acreage: 65 acres

Location: Sheppard Drive

Westhoff Park features lighted baseball and softball diamonds, pee wee fields, sand volleyball courts, eight horseshoe pits, basketball courts, tennis courts, a handball court, a skate park, two playgrounds and a pavilion. An all-inclusive playground is planned for the park.

Wentzville parks

Progress Park

Total acreage: 10 acres

Location: 968 Meyer Road

Progress Park offers aquatics, fitness and recreational opportunities to residents and nonresidents. It has an outdoor swimming pool with a 121-foot water slide, a baseball/softball field, a football field, two sand volleyball courts, a picnic shelter and barbecue pit, a playground, a banquet hall and a recreation center with a gym, weight room and track.

Rotary Park

Total acreage: 72 acres

Location: 2577 W. Meyer Road

Rotary Park is Wentzville's largest park and home to the St. Charles County Fair, the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire and the Holiday Night Lights drive-through display. It has a 5-acre lake where fishing is permitted, a trail, a playground, an amphitheater, several pavilions and an exhibit hall.

Fireman's Park

Total acreage: 5 acres

Location: 203 W. Pearce Blvd.

Fireman's Park features a lighted baseball field, two lighted tennis courts and a picnic shelter with a barbecue pit. The park is owned by the Wentzville Fire Protection District and managed and maintained by the Wentzville Parks and Recreation Department.

Memorial Park

Total acreage: 5 acres

Location: 1419 Kathleen Drive

Memorial Park has a baseball field, a picnic shelter with a barbecue pit, a playground and multi-purpose courts.

Bicentennial Park

Location: 22 W. Pearce Blvd.

Bicentennial Park was established as a memorial garden park in honor of a series of Civil War engagements and other events that occurred near the site.

Lake Saint Louis parks

Boulevard Park

Total acreage: 20 acres

Location: 2550 Lake Saint Louis Blvd.

Boulevard Park has a large pavilion and picnic facilities, a playground, an amphitheater, ponds and fountains, walking paths, softball and soccer fields, a volleyball net and comfort station.

Founders Park Sports Complex

Total acreage: 55 acres

Location: 7 Freymuth Road

Founders Park has six baseball/softball diamonds, five soccer fields, a half basketball court, picnic facilities, a playground, walking paths and a comfort station.

Veterans Memorial Park

Location: 200 Civic Center Drive, next to City Hall

Veterans Memorial Park includes a memorial built to honor all those, present and past, who have served in the military. Flags of all branches of the service, informational plaques and commemorative bricks are included in the memorial.

Hawk Ridge Park

Total acreage: 16.9 acres

Location: 8392 Orf Road

The all-inclusive and accessible Zachary's Playground anchors Hawk Ridge Park, which also includes two pavilions and a half-mile walking trail.

Cottleville Parks

Cottleville is growing its parks facilities, with construction on various projects planned throughout this year. Visit www.cityofcottleville.com for updates.

Legacy Park

Total acreage: 37 acres

Location: north of City Hall off Highway N

Legacy Park features an amphitheater, a dog park, a playground, shelters, a softball/baseball field and soccer/football field. Basketball/tennis courts, additional shelters, a parking lot and campsites are proposed. A pedestrian bridge over Dardenne Creek connects Legacy Park and Vantage Park. The city is working with the Cottleville Firefighters Community Outreach to install a Liberty Swing, which accommodates wheelchairs, in Legacy Park.

Vantage Park

Total acreage: 23 acres

Location: on Madison Park Drive, south of St. Peters-Cottleville Road

Vantage Park features a 9-acre lake, walking trail and small gazebo. Catch-and-release fishing is allowed. The park is also home to an annual spring fishing derby. Several trails are proposed to connect the park with other areas of the city.

Dardenne Prairie park

Expected to be complete in September 2011, plans for Dardenne Prairie's City Hall Park call for a 400-seat amphitheater, an interactive water playground and play systems for children of various ages at the City Hall grounds, 2032 Hanley Road. St. Paul parks

The city of St. Paul has plans for two parks developments. P.J. Peine Park is located at the southwest corner of Hoff Road and Summit Estates Drive. The St. Paul Parks Committee is looking into developing this park as a nature area with walking trails and a small pavilion. A yet-to-be-named park at Dalbow Road and Highway 79 may become a ballpark complex. Visit www.cityofstpaulmissouri.com for updates.

Weldon Spring park

The Weldon Spring City Hall and Park are located at 5401 Independence Road. The park features a new playground, scenic walking trail, a fishing lake and pavilion with picnic accommodations. For more information, visit www.weldonspring.org.
