The following information is from selected reports provided by the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department:

Young horse found shot

A 9-month-old mare was shot and killed, the horse's owner reported on Jan. 14. The owner told deputies the paint-style horse was last seen alive about 5 p.m. Jan. 11 on property in the 2400 block of Mette Road and was discovered dead about 1 p.m. Jan. 14. The horse had been shot in the chest, he said. Value of the animal was placed at $1,000. [Map highlight 1]

Car tires slashed at two businesses

Employees of Tri-Sun Tool Co., 225 Spring Drive, reported Jan. 16 that six tires on two vehicles were slashed by vandals overnight. Two tires on a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck valued at $300 and four tires on a 1985 Chevrolet El Camino valued at $150 were reported destroyed.

While doing an area canvass, deputies learned all four tires on a 1986 GMC pickup at A-1 Towing, 220 Spring Drive, also had been slashed. Value of those tires was placed at $200. [Map highlight 2]

Other property damage

Thieves may have wanted more than they found in an unlocked vehicle parked Jan. 16 in the 5800 block of Wellington Farm Drive on Jan. 16. The car's owner reported that a Mag-Lite flashlight valued at $40 and a 4-inch knife valued at $30 were stolen from the car. However, the passenger seat of the unlocked Dodge Neon was slashed, causing an estimated $750 in damages. The stolen flashlight was found in a neighbor's yard. [Map highlight 3]

$12,000 in jewelry stolen from home

A homeowner in the 1300 block of Heritage Landing reported Jan. 16 that three high-end jewelry items were taken from the home. The owner said a white-gold ring with diamond baguettes valued at $4,500, a white gold, 3-carat diamond necklace valued at $4,200 and a 3-carat diamond heart necklace valued at $3,500 were discovered missing Dec. 30, but they were then thought to have been misplaced. The jewelry had been stored in the homeowner's master bedroom. [Map highlight 4]

Other stealing

A homeowner in the 1400 block of Gettysburg Landing reported Jan. 18 that after his daughter left the garage door open overnight, he found that a compound bow and arrows were stolen from the garage and a key to his 2002 BMW was missing. Credit cards and ID cards from inside a wallet, which was laying on the kitchen counter, were also missing. The credit cards were canceled before they could be used. Value of the bow and arrows was placed at $350, and a replacement key was valued at $250. [Map highlight 5]

A man living in the first block of Nightfall Court reported Jan. 18 that after returning home from a hospital stay, he learned several checks were taken from his home and cashed at various locations. He was in the process of obtaining printouts from his bank to determine the amount taken. [Map highlight 6]

Suspicious vehicle call results in drug arrest

Responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle at Ridgeway and Quiet drives on Jan. 17, deputies reported that the female driver and male passenger both appeared nervous when they were interviewed next to a parked 1989 Chevrolet Blazer. The male was walking away from the vehicle when officers arrived, but the 28-year-old female was found inside the car with several syringes and a bottom of a soda can, commonly used to "cook down" heroin. She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The male, who told deputies he lived in the area and was patrolling a nearby pond looking for illegal fishermen, was released. [Map highlight 7]

Driver found slumped over at traffic signal

During the early hours of Jan. 14, a deputy who was stopped at a red light at South Harvester Road and St. Peters Parkway noticed the car ahead of him failed to advance after traffic signals changed to green. Approaching the car, the deputy found the driver slumped over the steering wheel and the car doors locked. Believing the driver passed out, the deputy began rapping on the window glass with his flashlight with the hope of awaking the driver. The driver stirred, looked at the deputy, but lapsed back into an unconscious state. The deputy then beat on the side window as the car started rolling across St. Peters Parkway. The 24-year-old male driver managed to finally stop the car but was arrested for driving while intoxicated. [Map highlight 8]

Other DWIs

A 23-year-old man was arrested near midnight Jan. 13 at Highway 94 at Highway 364 for speeding, following too closely, failure to maintain a single lane, no proof of insurance and driving while intoxicated.

A 24-year-old man was arrested during the early hours of Jan. 14 for failure to maintain a single lane and driving while intoxicated after he was seen weaving across the center line at Village Center Drive and Phoenix Parkway.

During the early hours of Jan. 14, a deputy watched a car swerve between lanes before stopping at Highway 364 and Arena Parkway. The 44-year-old male driver was arrested for failure to maintain a single lane and driving while intoxicated.

A 31-year-old man was arrested during the early hours of Jan. 14 at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Zumbehl Road after he was seen weaving through traffic and driving on the shoulder. He was arrested for failure to maintain a single lane and driving while intoxicated.

A 42-year-old man was arrested during the early hours of Jan. 14 for failure to maintain a single lane and driving while intoxicated after he was stopped at Heritage Crossing and Wharton Street.
