Robbery charges filed against shoplifter
What started out as a simple shoplifting resulted in a second-degree robbery charge against a 27-year-old woman.
According to reports, the woman aroused suspicion Jan. 19 when she entered the Shop 'n Save grocery store at 7909 Highway N, because she kept the hood on her hoodie-style sweatshirt around her head while perusing grocery aisles. Surveillance cameras in the store recorded her as she picked up several meat items and placed them in a plastic bag before entering the health and beauty aisle. She then walked past a cashier to the front door where store personnel attempted to stop her. Denying she had stolen anything, she tried to push past the employees who noticed the meat in her purse during the resulting scuffle. Deputies found two meat items in her purse along with an unpaid bottle of body wash, totaling $28.66. Because she fought with store employees, she was arrested for second-degree robbery.
