Police arrested 20 motorists for driving while intoxicated and five people for other violations at a DWI checkpoint Sept. 21 in the 400 block of Boone's Lick Road in St. Charles.

Officers stopped 472 vehicles and investigated 49 motorists for possible impaired driving at the checkpoint, conducted from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Officers from St. Peters, O'Fallon and the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department assisted St. Charles police with the checkpoint.

"We look for high-traffic locations," said Lt. Dave Senter of the St. Charles Police Department. "Obviously, it's not like we're trying to entrap anybody. The last checkpoint we did was at Fifth Street and Boone's Lick, and we had great success there and this was a great follow up."

Senter said the city's next DWI checkpoint had not yet been planned but that officers from St. Charles would assist the sheriff's department with a DWI checkpoint that was scheduled for Sept. 29.
