A husband, wife and their 3-year-old son were taken to a hospital Wednesday after deputies responded to a call about a possible fire.
Lt. Craig McGuire of the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department said deputies responded after a neighbor called at 4:05 p.m. and reported a house in the 1300 block of Carol Drive, in the Harvester area of unincorporated St. Charles County, might be on fire.
Patrick J. Murphy, 39, had life-threatening burns, Stacey R. Murphy had injuries not considered life-threatening, and their son had singed hair and possible smoke inhalation, McGuire said.
Investigators were still trying to determine if Patrick Murphy doused himself with lighter fluid and set himself on fire. McGuire said investigators learned the couple had argued Wednesday before the incident.
McGuire said Stacey Murphy was in a bedroom with their son when she heard Patrick scream from another bedroom. When Stacey saw Patrick, he was engulfed by fire. Stacey received her injuries when she tried to put out the flames with a blanket, McGuire said.
McGuire said it was too early in the investigation to determine whether any charges would be filed.
