Don't need new fire station

I strongly oppose the new fire station Central County Fire and Rescue plans to build on McMenamy Road in St. Peters. Having a station closer does not ensure the safety of the residents. A case in fact is last August in St. Charles there was a fire and four people died, and a fire station was only two blocks from the house. Also, I strongly object to paying firefighters to sleep. Why should we pay firefighters to sleep? Seventy percent of the firefighters in the United States are volunteers. Unless we put a fire station on every corner, there's no way to ensure safety for the entire residents at this time.

Where were the voters?

We came from voting (Feb. 7) for the presidential primary, and we were shocked at the number of people who were not there. What is the matter with people? What are they doing, sitting on their butts at home watching "Bullwinkle?" What's the matter with you people in Wentzviille? Get off your butts and take an interest in your country, or you're losing it.

Money wasted on primary

Look up the word 'stupid" and you will see the definition of (the Feb. 7 primary) election, a meaningless exercise which cost the state of Missouri more than $7 million to have an election that means nothing. You talk about stupid waste!

Wonderful class

Thank you to Jim Kramper from the National Weather Service, who put on a wonderful weather spotter class at Fort Zumwalt South High School. The number of students was outstanding, both for kids and adults.

Cut teachers' pay

This is in regard to the article "Fort Zumwalt faces projected $3M deficit." I haven't had a child in school for over 25 years and I still pay the school taxes. Something I don't understand — if these teachers receive advanced degrees, where are they using this? They already have a job teaching. Why should they get a pay raise for doing the same job they have been doing? Why not have them take a pay cut like some of the major companies have had to do? Also, this early release is a waste of taxpayers' money and puts a burden on a lot of the parents.

Mutilating trees

AmerenUE sent us a pamphlet on how to prune trees. This is a matter of the blind leading the blind. This has been a sore spot with me. Our illustrious leaders in St. Peters allow Ameren to come to our town and mutilate hundreds of trees. All they do is prune what affects them, instead of uniformly pruning the trees.

Cover volleyball

Is there any reason you cannot cover high school volleyball games? There is a great interest in girls' high school volleyball, parochial and public schools in St. Charles County.
