How would you like to sail the Mediterranean on a private yacht? Re-create the trial of Socrates in an ancient council chamber? Make sundials on a beach as part of an introduction to ancient astronomy?

For 30 years, Robert Hahn, a professor of philosophy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, has led Ancient Legacies programs to Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Italy. The programs are team-taught projects that bring together faculty from many disciplines along with students and members of the community.

"My goal is to make education fun and fun educational," says Hahn. "But this program can't happen without those people who have had life experiences." The trip welcomes people of all ages, including seniors and children accompanied by an adult.

Hahn will be leading informational sessions on the trips from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 4 and 11 at the St. Louis County Public Library, 1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard. You can also go to ancientlegacies.org to learn more.
