Located just over the tracks from the Harley-Davidson Museum, the Iron Horse Hotel caters to bikers with exacting tastes in linens, seasonal cuisine and green design — or anyone else, for that matter, who enjoys the good life.
The setup • The boutique hotel opened three years ago and has since been lauded in countless travel magazines and newspapers as the place to stay in Milwaukee. The Iron Horse is located in a 100-year-old warehouse and mixes rustic elements such as exposed brick and wood beams with luxe furniture, modern rain shower heads and contemporary art by Milwaukee artists.
The Iron Horse is off the beaten path; you'll need to drive to Miller Park and downtown attractions. But it boasts its own happening scene at Smyth, considered among Milwaukee's best restaurants, and the Branded lobby lounge and bar, which draws locals as well as tourists.
The rooms • The 100 rooms are enormous and feature Wi-Fi, a large flat screen and plush robes as well as complimentary ear plugs for light sleepers who may be bothered by the occasional train.
Pricing • Overnight parking is $25 a night (motorcycles are free), and a standard room for the June 10 series runs $200 or more. Cheaper hotels are bountiful, but the Iron Horse is a place to remember.
