Lucky's Market, one of the specialty grocers moving into the St. Louis area, said Monday it will open its Ellisville store in early July.

The store, at 15830 Fountain Plaza Drive, will be the first in the area for the grocery chain based in Boulder, Colo. Lucky's also has plans for a store in Rock Hill.

Earlier this year, a Lucky's opened in Columbia, Mo.

Lucky's is far from the only smaller-format, fresh grocery operation with sights on St. Louis. Most highlight “fresh” and “market” in their names: Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, Lucky’s Market, the Fresh Market and Fields Foods.

The Lucky's in Ellisville will employ about 180 people. It will be the seventh nationwide for the small chain begun in 2003. The company said today that a store in Louisville, Ky., will open in May.
