Citing low sales, Schnucks to close Shrewsbury grocery store

SHREWSBURY — Schnuck Markets Inc. is closing its grocery store on Chippewa Street in Shrewsbury, the company announced Friday.

The store will close for the last time at 4 p.m. on June 27. The company cited poor sales as the reason for the location’s closing.

“Anytime a store lease comes up for renewal, we review its past and current performance as a normal course of business. Even in the midst of the pandemic when other stores saw growth, our Shrewsbury location continued to underperform,” Schnucks Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck said in a statement.

The location’s 57 employees will be transferred to other Schnucks stores. The store’s lease is scheduled to expire in November.

In Feburary, Schnucks closed its South Lindbergh Boulevard store in Green Park, near Mehlville.
