Deck Commerce, a Brentwood-based seller of operations software for e-commerce companies, has raised $2.7 million as it looks to ramp up sales ahead of a busy holiday shopping season.

Deck Commerce's software helps retailers connect their front-end shopping channels, such as a website, with its back-end business systems. The software essentially helps companies how handle online orders and fulfillment.

The company works with such brands as New Balance, Build-A-Bear Workshop and Clairol.

“Retail is in a truly exciting state of transition," said CEO Chris Deck. "Technology has changed consumer shopping expectations, which has resulted in fundamental shifts for customer engagement."

He said the new money will help the company add approximately 25 new employees over the next 18 months.

Arsenal Capital Management, the St. Louis-based investment fund led by Pete Reinecke, led the financing. Arsenal helped Deck raise approximately $2 million last year.

“Deck Commerce reminds me of the old investing rule: do not worry about finding where the gold is, buy the companies that sell the picks and shovels," he said in a statement. "Deck’s (order management system) integrates with all the leading providers, including Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Magento.”
