Outdoor equipment and apparel retailer Gander Mountain is expanding with a new store in O'Fallon, Ill., its second in the region.
The St. Paul, Minn.-based chain that sells guns, archery gear, fishing poles, kayaks and clothing said the 61,000-square foot O'Fallon, Ill., store at the northeast corner of Central Park Circle and Central Park Drive will open in the spring. The store will be the chain's ninth location in Illinois.
The chain with 154 stores in 26 states opened its first Missouri store in Fenton in April. Gander Mountain opened 23 new stores this year, and president and chief operating officer Mike Owens told the Post-Dispatch earlier this year that the chain was looking at other locations for stores in Missouri and Illinois.
The rapidly expanding chain is led by executives who live in the St. Louis area: Owens; and chairman and CEO David Pratt. Pratt is the founder and former chairman and CEO of pesticide maker United Industries and a minority owner of the St. Louis Cardinals. Owens is a former Anheuser-Busch executive.
