St. Louis-based discount retailer Here Today is closing all of its stores in January and may re-open later in 2019.

Founded in 2013, the chain has eight stores in the St. Louis region, one is in Jefferson City and one is in Cape Girardeau. The stores, ranging from 17,000 to 20,000 square feet, sell a mix of clothing, groceries, electronics and household items.

In an interview with the Post-Dispatch in 2014, its leaders compared the retailer to a mix between a Marshalls, Trader Joe’s and HomeGoods. The merchandise changes regularly, and most of the products at Here Today are priced under $10.

A representative of the chain declined to comment Friday about the looming closures. On the company’s website, the chain said that it was “reviewing a transaction that resets our ownership structure” and that the chain hoped to “finish the year strong and re-open with an even better version of Here Today next year.”

“We plan to sell down as much of our inventory as possible, which is why our current sale features 10-40 percent off all items,” the notice continued. “Part of our growth plan includes closing all stores in January as we modify our store model.”
