With Ntozake Shange's "Spell #7" about to receive a Black Rep production, we present a list of black playwrights who have made their mark on the American stage.
In recent years, Thomas Bradshaw ("Fulfillment"), Jackie Sibblies Drury ("Fairview"), Marcus Gardley ("... And Jesus Moonwalks the Mississippi"), Jeremy O. Harris ("Slave Play"), Branden Jacobs-Jenkins ("Gloria") and Dominique Morisseau ("Pipeline") have also created noteworthy work.
"Spell #7" begins performances at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Washington University's A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre and runs through March 8. Find more information at theblackrep.org.
